Lost Children Found!

Here’s some good news!

Most of us know of Penola House, the Josephite refugee support centre. They have been supporting Isata Swaray, who has been trying for two years to bring her seven orphaned grandchildren from Liberia. At the Asylum Seeker rally in Newcastle in June, a distressed Sr Di Santleben told us she had just learned that the immigration department had refused visas for the children. Now, with help from the local MP, the visas have been approved! Sr Di said:

We were all overjoyed. It’s the rich and the dead in those parts of the world and I am so happy that these children can come here and get an education and a better life in Newcastle with their grandmother.

You can read more of this story (with some photos) in this Newcastle Herald article, or listen to an interview with Sr Di on ABC radio here.
