Divine Mercy Sunday

‘For the sake of his sorrowful passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.’

There may be times in our lives when we feel low — we may feel that we have failed, that somehow we have fallen short, not made the grade, not made a difference, stuffed up, lucked out, missed the boat, disappointed ourselves, disappointed others, disappointed God. We may think too much on our mistakes. We may think that we are a mistake.

But our God doesn’t make mistakes. Our God has made us his children. God has made us to love and be loved. By God and for God.

And here we find the meaning of mercy. We are free to place ourselves in the infinite embrace of the One who loves us beyond all comprehension. We are free to let go of our past, our failings, the things that hold us back from love…

God loves us because we are his children. To receive God’s mercy we only have to ask.

Have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Today, we are invited to encounter God’s divine mercy made present in Jesus. In Jesus, we find forgiveness, healing and new life. Once we have experienced the mercy of God, we are likewise encouraged to show mercy to others; to be source of forgiveness, of healing and of new life.

Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.
