On Sunday December 1 we joined the community at Toronto Foreshore to take part in the Toronto Carols Fair.
The parish was invited to hold a market stall during the day. This was a great opportunity for St Joseph’s to share some of our good works and story with the wider community. We invited the school to join us and they offered a beautiful space for children to create free Christmas craft. We focused on spreading the message of our DARA Community Kitchen. We borrowed the DARA van and set up shop on a glorious sunny day.
A generous team came together and helped set up our stall after mass in record time. We served our first sausage sandwich before 11am. The boys on the BBQ did a great job. The helpers in the van made the best DARA burgers; we had customers bring their friends back for a good feed! We also had some lovely work for sale from our craft group.
This was a new venture and took some courage and time to prepare. The result was well worth our efforts. Everyone involved had a great time and we had many interesting and worthwhile conversations. The Kitchen offers a space for people to gather and share a meal and conversation.
The smiles tell the story.
