Altar Servers Social Day

On Sunday, 22nd November, our altar servers got together for a fun afternoon.  The activity, organised by the parish, was our way of saying thank you to these young helpers.

The day consisted of water bombs, wet sponges and whipped cream Santa Claus beards! It was a chance to get messy, run around and have fun. After a good helping of watermelon, it was time for some “quieter’ activities as two teams competed in complete silence to build the tallest tower out of old newspapers.

The day concluded with a pot-luck dinner that all their families were invited to join. Our numbers significantly increased, it turned into a wonderful celebration of family, community and being united in our service of our God and parish.

After devouring some caramel slice and ice-cream, an epic soccer game soon began with the oldies against the youngsters. The intense competition was only broken when we all fell about laughing as a cheeky four-year-old decided to proudly take an all important penalty shot.

It truly was an enjoyable occasion and one that we hope to repeat again.

The ministry of altar serving is highly valued in our community. It is a way of engaging our young people in the Sunday worship of our parish. Through this ministry, our servers learn about the different parts of the mass, the meaning of different liturgical symbols and actions and they learn a sense of discipline appropriate to their role.

The ministry is open to any children in Year Three and above who have completed the Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Communion. If anyone is interested in becoming an altar server, they can contact the Parish Office on 4959 2777.
