“’Console my people, console them’ says your God” – Is 40.1

As I read through the readings for today, I couldn’t get past the first line. It felt like this was a word for our community. Our God wants to console and comfort us.

This year has been like no other. Every person, every family, has had to face challenges that have not been easy. Even as a community, we have needed adapt to loss and change.

I am painfully aware that as we gather here today, it was meant to be Richard on the door greeting us and ticking off our names. His sudden death has been a shock to our community. Tomorrow, we say goodbye to a member of our community who gave of himself in so many ways. We say goodbye to a friend.

Into this space, our God speaks words of peace and consolation.

Our God gathers his people and holds them to his breast
Our God leads us to a place of rest
