A Promise for Today

A reading from the Letter of St Paul to the Romans

Nothing can come between us and the love of Christ,
It doesn’t matter how I feel today or what I have done. Right now, I am loved.
even if we are troubled or worried,
Even when I look at our world right now and see great suffering and potential dangers…
or being persecuted,
When people judge me for what I believe, or simply for who I am…
or lacking food or clothes,
When money runs short, when families go hungry, when basic needs aren’t being met…
or being threatened or even attacked.
When nations are stockpiling weapons and speaking of war…
These are the trials through which we triumph, by the power of him who loved us.
The challenges of today are an opportunity for God’s love to be revealed through me.
For I am certain of this:
I grab hold of God’s promise for me today – because nothing can get in the way!
neither death nor life,
No virus
no angel, no prince,
No person
nothing that exists,
Nothing that happens today
nothing still to come,
Nothing coming tomorrow
not any power,
Not my addictions
or height or depth,
Not my greatest success or my deepest shame
nor any created thing,
Not even me
can ever come between us and the love of God made visible in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Today I am loved by the One who is Love – the Love I see in Jesus – the love that I will share today.
