‘There is no need to be afraid, little flock, for it has pleased your Father to give you the kingdom.’ – Lk 12.32

I love reading about the history of our community. The Parish Office has quite a bit of archived material. Some of you may be familiar with the small red publication, A Brief History of St Joseph’s Parish Toronto to 1984, written in preparation for the community’s relocation to our current site. It collects the memories of the past, but also contains the community’s hopes and dreams for the future. The final words read:

“We are participating in a very exciting era of the History of the Catholic Church in the Toronto/Blackalls Park/Wangi/Rathmines area. The possibilities and achievements of the future are limitless, and whilst we all continue to keep our eyes on the Lord and seek His guidance at all times, great things will result for His honour and Glory.”

Doesn’t this hope still hold true?

This is an exciting era in the history of the Catholic Church in our area.

The possibilities and achievements of the future, still limitless, lie before us.

And most of all, we continue to keep our eyes on Jesus. We seek His guidance at all times, listening to the voice of the Holy Spirit speaking into our story.

We still hope for the great things that God is doing, and will do, in our community.
